Ethereal and mellow on thepalate, it boasts flavours of toffee and caramel, burnt orange and raisins, dried plums, hazelnuts and a savoury hint of mushroom on the finish. Delicately aged in seasoned oak casks, Churchill’s 20 Year Old Tawny Port is full of finesse and Churchill’s characteristic fresh identity. It’s an exceptional Tawny, combining rich aromas of figs and raisins with a smooth and silky mouth feel. At 20 years aging in oak, the Port will have colours ranging from a reddish to golden Tawny, these exceptional wines are full of fruit and their flavours are more developed and concentrated due to the fact that the wine was aged in small oak casks. Bulas 20 years old Tawny is the result of a careful blend of port wines aged in oak casks, in the Quinta winery, following the old Douro winemaking traditions (“20 Years” indicates an average age).

A great choice for an endless array of desserts, such as toffee brownies, chocolate and pistachio pavé, or crostini of walnuts with chevre. We love the toffee/vanilla orange rind nose; the attack is opulent and complex offering up spicy, nutty, fiery, tea flavours with a delicious mellow vanilla finish. The flavour fills the whole palate with huge volume and power developing into an exceptionally long, fresh and honey-sweet finish. Aged Tawny Ports have been aged in wooden casks for an extended number of years and in the process their colour lightens and they take on a softer character.Once dominated by rather lack-lustre co-operatives, the area now has a whole clutch of dynamic, small producers making elegant, approachable and enjoyable wines. Only the top quality wines from Graham’s four spectacular Quintas in the Douro Valley are chosen to age in seasoned oak casks for 20 years. The greatest concentration of vineyards is in Castilla-La Mancha, but the finest and most famous wines come from Galicia (Rias Baixas), Catalonia (Cava and Priorat), Andalucia (Sherry), Castilla y Leon (Rueda, Toro and Ribera del Duero) and of course Rioja. Gradually, it sheds the deep red 'ruby' colour of its youth, taking on the alluring and seductive amber hue known as 'tawny.

The unique flavours that are the hallmark of Portugal's indigenous grape varieties have become its trump card. For over two centuries, Dow’s has been synonymous with the finest examples of Port from the vineyards of the Upper Douro Valley. With a great richness and aromatic complexity, notably of almond and spices, the 20 year old has a seductive texture with dry fruits and liqueur flavours. International' varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are becoming more and more popular in Spain, and their plantings are rising in various Spanish regions.

Year Ports are wood-aged Ports are those which age entirely in cask or vat and are ready to drink when they are bottled. Here again, the wines are selected from among the best red ports produced in the eastern areas of the Douro Valley, including Taylor's own properties, and aged in oak casks. While a few shippers have experimented with Ports produced from a single variety of grapes, all Ports commercially available are from a blend of different grapes.
